Gunite Pool Construction

The Strongest Pool Shell Available

Gunite is why the world's best pools last 40 years. It's the only method that allows truly custom shapes and delivers the structural integrity Florida's soil demands.

Not all pools are built the same. Fiberglass pools come in fixed shapes and sizes — you choose from a catalog. Vinyl liner pools are cheaper to install but require expensive liner replacements every 10–15 years. Gunite is different.

Gunite — a dry-mix concrete sprayed over a rebar framework — can be sculpted into any shape imaginable. Kidney, geometric, lagoon, L-shaped, infinity edge, zero-entry — it doesn't matter. The shell is monolithic, has no seams, and bonds directly to the earth. In Florida's high water table and shifting sandy soil, that structural integrity is critical.

Every pool Good Life Pools builds uses gunite construction. It's more labor-intensive than alternatives, which is why not every contractor offers it. But when you're investing $60,000–$100,000+ in a pool that should last 40 years, it's the only material worth using.

What Sets Our Work Apart

🔩

Unlimited Design Freedom

Gunite takes any shape — freeform lagoons, sharp geometric designs, infinity edges, grottos, raised walls, and more. No pre-made molds limit your vision.

🌴

Built for Florida

Southwest Florida's sandy soil, high water table, and year-round heat demand structural integrity that vinyl and fiberglass can't match. Gunite's rebar-reinforced concrete handles it.

📅

Decades of Life

A well-built gunite pool lasts 30–50 years. The shell doesn't degrade, crack from ground movement, or require full replacement the way vinyl-liner pools do.

Common Questions

How does gunite compare to fiberglass?

Fiberglass pools are faster to install and have a smoother surface, but they come in fixed pre-made shapes — you're choosing from a catalog, not designing your own pool. Gunite takes longer to build but allows complete custom design, lasts longer structurally, and handles pool additions (spas, waterfalls, attached features) far better.

How long does a gunite pool last?

The gunite shell itself can last 50+ years. The interior plaster finish typically needs resurfacing every 10–15 years, which is a fraction of the cost of replacing a vinyl liner or a fiberglass shell.

Is gunite more expensive than other pool types?

The upfront cost is higher than vinyl-liner pools, and similar to fiberglass. But over a 20–30 year timeframe, gunite is typically less expensive because you're not replacing liners or dealing with structural cracks from the shell shifting.

Does the curing process affect how soon I can swim?

Yes — gunite requires a curing period of 28 days before interior plaster is applied, and then the pool needs to fill and chemically balance before it's ready to swim. We account for all of this in your project timeline.
